The U. S. Marine Corps Reserve has a sixty odd year old program to collect toys for tots from disadvantaged families both in the United States and in other countries. The goal is to save new unwrapped toys during October, November and December every year and then hand those toys out as Christmas gifts to deprived children in the community in which the campaign is being conducted.
Quite a few people, particularly families, clear out their wardrobes of garments that are no longer worn at least once a year. They take these surplus clothes to shops supporting charities and good causes like Dr. Bernardo’s, The Salvation Army and Oxfam, who them check them for damage, launder them and resell them. The profits created are passed on to the relevant good cause.
